Woodford County, KY Medical Reserve Corps/CERT
Sarah Cunliffe, Woodford County Health Department, Versailles, Ky

Woodford County, KY is home to approximately 23,000 residents. We are a rural community located in central Kentucky in the heart of bluegrass horse country. Woodford County, KY is in the second year of our MRC/CERT development. To date we are proud to have approximately 100 volunteers of individuals with medical and non-medical backgrounds. Team members have participated in up to 30 hours of trainings by local agencies including Versailles Fire Department, Woodford County Emergency Management, Woodford County Health Department, Woodford County Emergency Medical Services, Woodford County Coroner and Bluegrass Community Hospital.

Three of our team members volunteered for response after hurricanes in the south.  They were deployed under the Citizen Corps Program as a FEMA Special Recruit. After reporting to the Atlanta Georgia staging and mobilization area, they spent several days in training and processing before being deployment to the field.  Their field assignments included North Carolina and Alabama.  These individuals committed a minimum of four weeks to this effort.

Additionally a medical professional on our team completed a two week assignment with the Red Cross for the Ivan Disaster relief effort. This volunteer was assigned to a service center in Pensacola.

The team is coordinated by the Woodford County Health Department in Versailles Kentucky.  Visit our team on our website at www.wchd.com.
