NOW WHAT DO WE DO WITH THEM NOW? Turkey...Earthquake...August 17th. ...2:03AM....7.4 Richter scale...thousands trapped. Once again we are reminded that following a major disaster we will be relying on the skills of our "real first responders," the community. We will be relying on them for those first few critical hours and maybe even for days until professional rescue teams and the military can mobilize and arrive in sufficient numbers to take over the load. BayNET, SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS EFFORTS Carrie Barnecut, Office of Emergency Services, Oakland Fire Department Law enforcement, fire suppression and emergency service agencies across the country are espousing the concept of community preparedness. Many have established neighborhood emergency team (NET) training programs. In Californias Bay Area, NET program coordinators have formed a network for resource sharing and education.
