COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS FAIL – CERT MEMBERS
SUCCEED Diane Middleton, Coordinator, Whatcom County Emergency Management February 28, 2001 – The 6.8 magnitude Nisqually Earthquake struck western Washington at 10:54 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. Two after shocks and several small quakes in the Puget Sound area followed it. Whatcom County, in the northwestern corner of the state, felt the earthquake but was spared from significant damages. Homes, schools, and businesses shook and nerves were rattled. Telephone systems soon became overloaded as people tied up the lines trying to validate what they felt and saw. |
