FLORIDA CERT CONFERENCE
Wendy Benton , Lake Mary Fire Department, CERT Conference Committee

The CERT program is a vital part of Florida communities and the emergency management system.  The program continues to grow throughout the state at a steady rate and the team members are consistently looking for more ways to get involved. As a means of providing more interest and interaction as well as more standardized training, a committee of CERT Coordinators from across the state have gathered for the second year to organize a statewide CERT Conference.  Last year’s conference was a great success, attracting over 200 attendees.

The 2nd Annual Florida CERT Conference will be held in Lake Mary on January 16-19, 2003. The conference is packed with exciting, informational classes for both the basic and advanced level members, as well as an impressive apparatus and vendor display.

The event offers attendees the opportunity to participate in an Airport Disaster Drill and attend the new Module 8 – Terrorism class.  The conference is scheduled over a weekend; however this year Thursday evening was added for those interested in receiving their CPR certifications, tour the local EOC in Seminole County and attend an ICS tabletop exercise.

We have a great line up and expect a larger turnout this year.  The conference is open to everyone, not just Florida residents, so come join us.  For more information you can go to our website at www.floridacert.com or contact Wendy Benton.
