THE SEMINOLE COUNTY CERT REHAB TEAM
Pam Amburgey, Public Information Officer,  Seminole County CERT Association, Inc.

Seminole County CERT Association, Inc., the first Florida CERT association to be a 501 C 3 not-for-profit organization, applied for a Citizen’s Corp of Florida grant, and recently was awarded a $16,000 grant for their efforts!  The majority of the money will be utilized to publicize the CERT program throughout Seminole County.  The plan is to have members of the association attend Homeowner’s Association meetings, churches, local businesses, and more public safety fairs.  In addition to the public relations arena, other portions of the grant will be used to purchase equipment to support disaster responses and rehab support at extended emergency incidents.

The Seminole County CERT Rehab Team responds to extended Fire/Rescue incidents to provide rehabilitation for personnel at the scene. We provide food, drink, first aid and monitoring of vital signs. CERT Rehab Team members are Medical First Responders and train monthly to keep up on medical skills.  Currently, 30 students are attending the second 44-hour First Responder class, which is being taught by Seminole County Public Safety personnel.

Thus far in 2003, the Rehab team has been called out approx 4 times in the past 2 months. The type of extended “scenes” when the Rehab team is called out, are depicted in the photos to the left and right.

The members of the association have also conducted several public relations events recently, and for the third year in a row, the Rehab team will be providing Rehab support for the LEA and EMS/Fire personnel for the 4th of July festivities at Cranes Roost, Altamonte Springs, FL.

This association is also proud to have been awarded the "Special Recognition Award 2001" by Seminole County EMS/Fire/Rescue and a Proclamation of Appreciation by the City of Winter Springs for manning the rehab tent 24/7 for 4 days during a fire at a tire shredding facility.

The association continues to grow and has recently been added to Seminole County’s Protocol Standards, which is true testament on how important this association is to Seminole County; when the need arises, the volunteers of this association are prepared to support the community and the Seminole County Public Safety Department.
