NATRONA COUNTY CERTs SUPPLEMENT TERRORISM/HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSE
Stewart Anderson, Natrona County OES

Natrona County continues the CERT advance training.   The Casper Fire Department recently approached Emergency Management Office about using CERT members to assist with multi-casualty, mass decontamination. Natrona County, due to its rural nature, has very few female fire fighters.   Therefore, a need for assistance in decontaminating large amounts of people, men and women, was identified.    The fire department advised that they would train the CERT members to operations level and that they would like at least 20 members.

Three classes were held over the last three weekends.   A total of 45 CERT graduates took this training.   The training included recognizing and identifying, zoning, levels of PPE,   safe response procedures, and decontamination procedures.   The training included class room, written tests, and a practical exercise in setting up the mass decon stations at Casper Fire Department Station number 3.   These CERT members are now on a call-out list for response to situations involving the need for mass decon.   By the way….the quickest time for setting up the decon with members of the Casper Fire personnel was 20 minutes.   The CERT classes had the following times: 10 minutes, 10 minutes, and 8 minutes.
