MARTIN
COUNTY CERT Martin County started CERT training in 1998 AND since that time we have trained 120 persons representing 22 neighborhoods. In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene we used CERT members to deliver fliers detailing the method for the residents to access individual assistance. Thirty-eight members showed up on a Saturday morning working until noon all areas which were identified as receiving damage were canvassed and FEMA fliers distributed. Approximately 2500 houses were visited. The effort of this volunteer group was of superior assistance in getting this info to the impacted public in a rapid manner. I would suggest all counties with CERT groups consider this tasking. Their training makes them ideal candidates for task as they are aware not to place themselves in an unsafe position. If you would like more info on Martin County's program let me know. |
